DSC_0044 (1)A new winter storm will begin to pound much of the United States starting Friday.

The storm will stretch from Colorado to the East Coast and affect over 20 million people, the National Weather Service said. Major cities from Denver to Kansas City to St. Louis, Indianapolis, Louisville, Cincinnati, Pittsburgh, Baltimore, and Washington, D.C. are in its path.

Expect snow from the Rockies, Plains, and Midwest to the mid-Atlantic states as the storm moves east.

The National Weather Service said that St. Louis should see the greatest amount of snowfall, 8” (20 centimeters). Areas along the southern edge of the storm, including southern Kansas, northern Arkansas, southern Kentucky, and northern Tennessee, should see a wintry mix of ice and snow.

Expect hazardous traveling conditions in many areas and snow tires may be a must. Those traveling by air should expect some delays although few have been posted at 10 a.m. EST on Friday.
