Review: Jimmy at the James, SoHo – A Bar That’s Worthy of the View

Wine can be ordered by the glass or bottle. A few notables available by the glass include a wonderful Danzante Pinot Grigio 2016 and several sparkling wines from Moët & Chandon. The same wines are largely available by the bottle, although the bottle list is a tad more extensive. The beer list is brief – only four selections – but includes one of my favorites, Peroni.

Don’t expect to leave quickly. We came for the view and the expertly-crafted drinks but then we lingered over the snacks and had more drinks.  The cheese plate includes a delightful smoked cheddar along with brie and blue cheese crostini, and the buttermilk fried chicken skewers, accompanied by ranch dressing, are finger lickin’ good.

The noise level is civilized and, compared to many popular bars, almost library quiet in comparison.

It’s almost hard to leave Jimmy but it’s reassuring to know that it – and the view – will be there the next time you want to visit one of the best rooftop bars in the city.

When you do depart, look closely at the wall when you descend the stairs from the elevator to the lobby: it’s covered in thousands of old typewriter and computer keyboard keys, a quirky site-specific art installation entitled QWERTY 5.
