Charging stations are available throughout the gate area and the entire terminal offers passengers complimentary fast and unlimited Wi-Fi.

Airport employees and managers spent much of the day testing everything from the Wi-Fi, which for me was incredibly fast and easy to sign onto, to flushing toilets (the bathrooms are striking).

DINING ESTABLISHMENTS AND SHOPS

The new concourse has six dining establishments representing the tastes of New York including a Shake Shack and Irving Farm Coffee. It will also have the world’s first in-airport FAO Schwarz toy store in addition to a variety of other shops and restaurants that include District Market and a bookshop where, thanks to a clever design, airport operations are visible through the shelves themselves.

While it was somewhat chaotic at Shake Shack due to the opening, I nevertheless was able to order a satisfying hot dog (Shake Shack began as a humble hot dog cart in Madison Square Park near our offices on the park) and fries.  One of the managers was stationed where customers pick up their orders, ensuring a smooth flow and immediately fixing any small mistakes in the orders.

Across the way, only a handful of customers were in FAO Schwarz but the sales clerk there reported that sales were nonetheless brisk.

Another amenity sure to be welcomed by travelers is Spa Here, a far more private and upscale version of the back-and-neck massage establishments popular at airports.  Each client is welcomed into a private area and options include everything from a leg-and-foot or hand-and-arm massage to manicures and pedicures to the head, back, and shoulder massage that I had.  By the time the massage was finished, I had to open my eyes and look out at the concourse to be reminded I was still at an airport.
