American Airlines announced on Giving Tuesday that it is making a donation of $500,000 to the Stand Up To Cancer initiative.

The donation was made “in honor of AAdvantage customers’ generosity,” the airline said in a statement.

Stand Up To Cancer works to raise money that speeds research in the field in order to get new treatments to patients as quickly as possible.

“This is a good reminder that thousands of American’s team members and customers have been impacted by cancer,” said Janelle Anderson, the airline’s vice president of global marketing, adding that “we hope to do our part in lightening their load.”

The airline’s support of the initiative includes an Airbus A321T with a 50-foot-long(15.25-meter-long) overlay featuring researchers in the field and four American Airlines employees who are cancer survivors.
