IMG_9645The number of passengers that will fly during this year’s 12-day Thanksgiving holiday period is expected to increase over last year’s figures. The Thanksgiving holiday falls on Thursday, November 22.

Figures released by Airlines for America, an industry trade group, predict that 30.6 million passengers will travel on U.S. airlines during the last two weeks of November. The forecast is a 5% increase over last year’s prediction of 29 million.

The trade group estimates that American carriers will fly an average of 2.55 million passengers a day over the 12-day period, which will last from Friday, November 16 through Tuesday, November 27.

Travel this year is “incredibly accessible and affordable,” said John Heimlich, chief economist of Airlines for America.

The busiest travel days are expected to be Sunday, November 25; the day before Thanksgiving, Wednesday, November 21; and Friday, November 16. As in past years, the least busiest travel day of the holiday period is expected to be Thanksgiving Day itself.
