United Airlines announced the launch of new service between San Francisco and Papeete, the capital city of Tahiti.

United will offer the flight on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays, and, beginning March 30, 2019, the carrier will offer year-round service on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays.

United will operate the route using Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft, equipped with 36 lie-flat seats in the United Polaris business-class cabin, 70 seats in its premium-economy lite cabin, and 113 seats coach. United Polaris seats are 22” wide and have a bed length of 78”.

The service will be the first non-stop by a U.S. carrier to operate from the mainland to Tahiti.

Papeete has a population of approximately 136,000. Its airport, Fa’a’ā International Airport, first opened in 1960.
