United Airlines Orders Nine More Boeing 787 Dreamliners
United Airlines and Boeing announced that the airline had placed an order for nine additional Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner aircraft.
The Boeing 787 Dreamliners will be outfitted with United’s new Polaris business-class seats.
United ordered four additional 787-9 Dreamliners in July of this year as well. The airline currently operates 25 787-9s and 12 787-8s in its Dreamliner fleet. It has 14 787-10 Dreamliners on order and slated to be delivered in 2018 and has ordered a total of 64 Dreamliners to date.
The Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner is the second member of the Dreamliner family to be produced. Similar to the 787-8, the lengthened variant of the high-tech jet uses 20% less fuel and produces 20% fewer emissions than similar-sized airplanes.
Compared to the original, the 787-9 is 20’ (six meters) longer, has greater capacity, and has a range of 8,300 nautical miles (15,372 kilometers), while the 787-8 is limited to 7,850 nautical miles (14,500 kilometers).
