Southwest Airlines Reports Jump in Traffic and Capacity for September

DSC_0495Southwest Airlines announced operational results for September 2018.

The carrier reported an increase in capacity and traffic, while its load factor was down.

The airline’s total system traffic was 10 billion RPMs, or revenue passenger miles, a year-over-year increase of 5.3% from 9.5 billion RPMs in September 2017. The company reported a total system capacity of 12.4 billion ASMs, or available seat miles, up 6.8% from 11.6 billion the previous September.

Meanwhile, Southwest’s load factor for the month dropped by 1.2 percentage point to 80.5% from 81.7%.

The airline reported it carried 10.3 million passengers in the month, an increase of 3.8% over 9.9 million in September 2017.
