Delta Air Lines announced plans to add new service from Boston to Edinburgh next year. The route is the airline’s eighth international offering from Boston.

The Scottish government said the flight will open further opportunities for trade between the two countries.

“Direct air links to the United States of America play an important role for Scotland’s economy, so I warmly welcome the announcement of this new service between Edinburgh and Boston,” said Scottish Government Cabinet Secretary for Transport, Infrastructure, and Connectivity Michael Matheson.

The Atlanta-based carrier will operate the flight using Boeing 757 aircraft. The planes are equipped with 16 lie-flat seats in the Delta One business-class cabin, 44 seats in the premium-economy lite cabin, and 108 seats in coach.

Flights will depart Boston Logan International Airport for Edinburgh Airport at 10:15 p.m. and arrive at 9:25 a.m. the next day. Return flights depart at 10:55 a.m. and arrive at 1:02 p.m.
