Delta Air Lines said it would like to operate a new route from Shanghai to Minneapolis starting in 2020.

The airline submitted a proposal to the U.S. Department of Transportation for permission to operate this route. It would be the first non-stop from the state of Minnesota to China and it is also subject to approval by the Chinese government.

Delta would operate the route using Airbus A350-900 aircraft. The Atlanta-based airline is the first U.S. operator of the type.

The new A350-900 is equipped with 306 seats in a three-class configuration, with 32 seats in Delta One, 48 seats in the new Delta Premium Select cabin, and 226 seats in the main cabin.

Each Delta One suite has a full-height door and there are sliding privacy dividers separating center suites. Each suite has individually customizable ambient lighting; storage compartments for a laptop, headphones, and shoes; a memory foam comfort cushion; and an 18” in-flight entertainment monitor.

Seats in Premium Select will have up to 38” of seat pitch and 19” of width as well as 7” of recline. Each seat features adjustable leg and headrests and passengers receive Westin Heavenly In-Flight blankets and pillows, a Tumi amenity kit, and noise-cancelling headphones.
