DSC_0271 (1)A student pilot climbed over a fence at Orlando Melbourne International Airport early Thursday morning and boarded an American Airlines plane undergoing maintenance.

The 23-year-old man, identified as Nishal Sankat, was reportedly tackled by two airline workers as he entered the cockpit around 2 a.m.

The suspect fled onto the airfield but was arrested minutes later by airport police, airport spokesman Lori Booker told reporters at a news conference.

The aircraft, an Airbus A321, was undergoing maintenance at the time to install a new in-flight Wi-Fi system.

Sankat, a student at the Florida Institute of Technology who is originally from Trinidad and Tobago, was charged with a criminal attempt to steal an aircraft, trespass, and a visa violation.

Federal officials are investigating the motive behind Sancta’s actions.
