Southwest Reports Rise in Traffic and Capacity for August

DSC_0819Southwest Airlines announced operational results for August 2018.

The carrier reported an increase in capacity and traffic, while its load factor fell slightly.

The airline’s total system traffic was 11.41 billion RPMs, or revenue passenger miles, a year-over-year increase of 1.6% from 11.2 billion RPMs in August 2017. The company reported a total system capacity of 13.55 billion ASMs, or available seat miles, up 2% from 13.28 billion the previous August.

Meanwhile, Southwest’s load factor for the month dropped by 0.6 percentage point to 84.3%.

The airline reported it carried 11.4 million passengers in the month, an increase of 1.6% over 11.2 million in August 2017.
