Viceroy Hotel Group announced plans to reopen the newly reflagged Hotel Emblem, in early 2019.

Located at the border of Union Square and Nob Hill, the 96-room property, formerly known as the Hotel Rex, is currently undergoing an extensive renovation. It will open with a look inspired by the Beat Generation designed by Wilson Ishihara, the company said.

The hotel will feature a cocktail lounge and a lobby filled with books in a Writer’s Alcove.

In keeping with the Beat Generation theme, the hotel will have a coffee shop and café as well as a poetry projection wall. The décor will be mid-century modern and the guest rooms, designed by Hatch Design Group, will be “stylishly eclectic,” the hotelier said.
