The striking LF-LC Concept – LF-LC stands for Lexus Future Luxury Coupe – made its debut at the North American International Auto Show in 2012 to thunderous applause although few believed it would ever make it into production relatively unchanged. It defied the odds, however, and was introduced as the 2018 Lexus LC 500 and LC 500h, the latter behind the hybrid variant.

Indeed its swoopy design gets attention wherever it goes as I discovered

After a week behind the wheel of the LC 500h. It was also clear that opting for the hybrid model is not a compromise when contrasted with the V8, as I had driven both at the launch event in Kona last year.

The head turner is part of the efforts of Akio Toyoda, the fast-driving grandson of the founder, and current president of Toyota who was frustrated with the idea that Americans found the brand “boring,” to inspire passion and emotion and disassociate itself from that word.

Indeed, the LC 500h is nothing short of stunning and it’s a true enthusiast vehicle that comes alive when pushed hard.

Its low-slung good looks with the wheels pushed as far forward as imaginable gives onlookers a fairly good idea of what lies under the hood and the type of performance one may expect from behind the wheel. Its muscular profile is emphasized by the chrome-plated moldings along the side of the glass roof whose edges follow the lines of a samurai sword.
