IMG_0484 2Air Canada said Thursday that the airline had experienced a data breach that impacted personal information for approximately 20,000 customers.

The data “may potentially have been improperly accessed” via the airline’s mobile app and Air Canada is requiring a password change for all of its 1.7 million accounts as a precaution before customers can access their accounts.

In an e-mail to customers, the airline said it “recently detected unusual log in behaviour with Air Canada’s mobile App between Aug. 22 24, 2018.”

While Air Canada says that any financial information such as credit card data was protected through encryption, other details including an individual’s name, e-mail address, and telephone number, as well as the Aeroplan frequent flyer number, date of birth, known traveler number, and passport details could have been accessed.
