Volkswagen announced plans to introduce its own car-sharing service. The new offering, dubbed We, will be available in its home market of Germany in 2019 and worldwide the following year. The fleet of cars available to drivers will be comprised solely of electric vehicles.

The automaker is entering the market “with a holistic single-source concept covering all mobility needs from the short journey that takes just a few minutes to the long vacation trip,” said Jürgen Stackmann, a Vorstandsmitglied or member of the board of directors responsible for sales.

Drivers would access the service via the “We” app and it will be managed by a VW subsidiary, Urban Mobility International GmbH.

The Wolfsburg-based automaker said it would expand the service to “major cities in Europe, North America, and Asia” in 2020.

VW said it plans to offer a variety of mobility-based services via the We app in addition to the car-sharing offering.
