United Airlines announced it was updating its policy for photographs taken on board its flights.

The change vastly expands when and where passengers may take photos without inadvertently violating the airline’s policy.

With the change, flight attendants have been told to “allow customers to photograph or record you unless they are creating a safety or security risk or preventing you from doing your job.”

In a memo to its crew members, the airline said the change was in recognition of the fact that “the vast majority of our customers carry smartphones which they frequently use to capture aspects of their travel experience.”
