Star Alliance announced that its Connection Service for passengers making tight flight connections is now up and running at Toronto Pearson International Airport.

The Connection Service is designed to assist passengers connecting between two Star Alliance airlines even before the inbound flight lands. Agents monitor flights behind the scenes and can book alternative connections in cases where there are delays and help ensure such passengers make their onward flights.

Thirteen members of Star Alliance operate out of Toronto Pearson including Air Canada, Austrian Airlines, Brussels Airlines, Copa Airlines, LOT Polish Airlines, Lufthansa, Turkish Airlines, and United Airlines. These airlines offer a total of over 6,000 flights and connect Toronto to over 159 destinations.

The alliance is looking into expanding the Connection Service to other major hubs in its network, it said. It is already in operation at Chicago O’Hare, Frankfurt Airport, George Bush Intercontinental Airport in Houston, and Munich Airport while a subset of the system that expedites baggage is operating at an additional six airports including London Heathrow and Los Angeles International airports.
