InterContinental Hotels Group announced the addition of nine hotels in the United Kingdom to its portfolio.

The move comes as the result of an agreement with Covivio, formerly Foncière des Régions, to take over 12 existing properties and one planned hotel.

The hotelier will open four Kimpton hotels in the city centers of London, Manchester, Edinburgh, and Glasgow.  The London property, currently the Principal, which opened in 1898, is located in Bloomsbury and will be the capital city’s first Kimpton Hotel. The Edinburgh property is currently the Principal Edinburgh Charlotte Square and was built in 1791.

The new voco brand will make its debut in Cardiff Bay later this year. It is currently the Principal St. David’s Hotel.

The company will open an Indigo hotel in Leeds in 2020. It is currently the Principal Met Leeds Hotel.

Finally, the Principal Edinburgh St. George Street will be reflagged as an InterContinental hotel late next year.
