Collective Governors Island ‘Glamping’ Camp Opens in New York Harbor
The Collective Governors Island opened its tents to guests on Wednesday on the island that, as the first landing place for the settlers of New Netherland, is considered the birthplace of New York State.
Operated by Collective Retreats, the glamping camp offers plush accommodations in a variety of tents surrounded by nature. Peter Mack, the company’s CEO, told Frequent Business Traveler that he thinks of it as an “oasis” where New Yorkers and visitors to the city can escape to and connect with nature.
The hotelier currently offers two types of tents, a smaller Journey tent and a larger Summit tent. Within each tent type, guests can select two twin beds or a larger queen or king.
The retreat is reachable by an eight-minute ferry trip from Lower Manhattan and a five-minute ferry ride from Brooklyn.
Collective Retreats operates four other retreats including one in Big Sky, Montana near Yellowstone National Park and an organic farm in New York’s Hudson Valley.
