Southwest Reports Rise in Traffic and Capacity for May

DSC_0819Southwest Airlines announced operational results for May 2018.

The Dallas-based carrier reported an increase in traffic and capacity and a slight drop in its load factor.

The airline’s total system traffic was 11.7 billion RPMs, or revenue passenger miles, a year-over-year increase of 4.2% from 11.2 billion RPMs in May 2017.

The carrier reported a total system capacity of 13.8 billion ASMs, or available seat miles, up 5.2% from 13.2 billion the previous May.

Meanwhile, Southwest’s load factor for the month dropped .08 percentage points to 84.6% from 85.48% for the same period in 2017.
