American Airlines announced the addition of a new milestone to its AAdvantage frequent flyer program for top-tier members along with a 5,000-mile partner challenge and a new website design.

Similar in concept to the Elite Rewards program unveiled in 2013, although far more limited, the Fort Worth-based airline is adding a choice of rewards for flyers with Executive Platinum status that reach 300,000 miles in a year. The choices include the ability to gift Platinum status to a friend, two additional systemwide upgrades, or 40,000 bonus miles. Executive Platinum members who reach 150,000 and 200,000 elite qualifying miles receive two additional systemwide upgrades at both milestones.

The AAdvantage 5K Challenge will allow all members to earn up to 5,000 miles by completing activities such as making a purchase through the AAdvantage shopping portal or AAdvantage dining, flying on an American flight, and booking a hotel or rental car at the airline’s branded partner sites for hotels and rental cars.

Finally, the airline is rolling out a new user interface for the AAdvantage website that adds a tab for promotions so that members can not only see what promotions they are eligible for but also track their progress.
