DSC_0836Allegiant Travel Company, parent of Allegiant Air, a leisure airline, announced plans to open a two-aircraft base in Knoxville, Tennessee.

The airline said it plans to invest over $50 million in the base, which will be home to two Airbus A320-family aircraft.  The McGhee Tyson Airport base will add about 66 jobs to the area and will begin to operate in October of this year.

The move will lead to “more jobs and travel opportunities for the people of East Tennessee,” said Eddie Mannis, who chairs the Metropolitan Knoxville Airport Authority Board of Commissioners.

Allegiant currently operates 27 routes from four additional locations in Tennessee including Chattanooga, Memphis, Nashville, and the Tri-Cities region.
