A Cubana de Aviacion flight crashed in Havana late Friday shortly after taking off from Aeropuerto Internacional José Martí.

One hundred and four passengers and nine crewmembers were on board. Preliminary reports indicate that there were three survivors.

“There has been an unfortunate aviation accident. The news is not very promising, it seems that there is a high number of victims,” said Cuban president Miguel Diaz-Canel.

The Boeing 737 plane was heading to the city of Holguín, a tourist area in eastern Cuba.

The cause of the crash is unknown.
