The 2017-2018 Broadway season, which came to a close Sunday, was the best attended and highest grossing ever.

The season saw the opening of 33 productions including ten plays and 20 musicals.

Among the top draws on Broadway that opened this season are “Harry Potter and the Cursed Child,” “Mean Girls,” “SpongeBob SquarePants,” and “Angels in America.”

The Broadway League, the trade association that represents Broadway theater owners and operators as well as show producers, said that Broadway shows had grossed approximately $1.697 billion, and that attendance was up 3.9%, with over 13.7 million people having attended a show.

Compared to the games of the ten professional sports teams in New York and New Jersey, Broadway had 3.5 million more people in attendance.
