Amtrak to Update Acela Express Cabins
The refurbishment will include new seat covers and cushions and new carpeting.
“Customers expect a premium experience when they board an Acela Express train, and these updated interior features will provide a more comfortable, refreshed look and feel,” said Amtrak CEO Richard Anderson.
The project will begin this month and continue for 14 months. Amtrak said that the work will not result in any changes to its schedule. Furthermore, the current seat cushions and covers will be recycled and used to make carpet padding, while the leather will be upcycled and used to make handbags and wallets.
In June 2016 Amtrak announced plans to replace its existing fleet of Acela Express trains with new models capable of traveling at 160 mph (258 km/h). The new train sets will have 30% greater capacity and faster onboard Wi-Fi. Each seat will also have its own electrical outlet, USB port, and reading light.
