American Airlines Orders 30 New Regional Jets in Two Deals Worth $1.4 Billion
American Airlines announced two deals totaling $1.4 billion for regional jets that it will split between Bombardier and Embraer.
The world’s largest airline will purchase 15 Bombardier CRJ900 aircraft and 15 Embraer E-175 planes with options for an additional 15 from each manufacturer.
The move allows American to shift to larger regional jets that are more similar to the aircraft in its mainline fleet and will allow it to shed some smaller regional jets as well.
The Fort Worth-based airline announced a deal for 47 new Boeing 787 Dreamliners on April 6.
American said that the Embraer E-175 planes will be operated by Envoy Air, a regional carrier owned by American, while the Bombardier CRJ900 aircraft will be operated by its regional affiliate PSA Airlines.
