‘SpongeBob SquarePants,’ ‘Harry Potter and the Cursed Child,’ and ‘My Fair Lady’ Lead 2018 Outer Critics Circle Nominations

The 2018 Outer Critics Circle award nominations were announced Tuesday at the famed Oak Room in New York City’s Algonquin Hotel.

The award nominees were announced by Katrina Lenk, the award winning actress who originated the role of Dina in “The Band’s Visit,” and Jenn Colella, who earned the 2017 Outer Critics Circle Award for Outstanding Featured Actress in a Musical for her role as Captain Beverly Bass in “Come From Away.”

Leading the nominations were “SpongeBob SquarePants,” the new musical based on the animated television series of the same name, with 11 that included Outstanding New Broadway Musical, Outstanding Book of a Musical, and Outstanding New Score; “Harry Potter and the Cursed Child” with ten, including Outstanding New Broadway Play and Outstanding New Score; and “My Fair Lady”  with nine, including Outstanding Actor as well as Actress in a Musical, Outstanding Revival of a Musical, and Outstanding Sound Design.

Winners will be announced on May 7, 2018 and the awards will be presented at a dinner at Sardi’s on May 24.

The Outer Critics Circle is an organization of writers covering New York theater for out-of-town newspapers, national publications, and other media beyond Broadway.
