DSC_0493Southwest Airlines announced financial results for the first quarter of 2018.

The airline reported a net income of $463 million, while total revenue for the quarter was up 1.9% to $4.9 billion, a record for a first quarter for the carrier.

In addition, the carrier announced that it would begin new service to four Hawaiian airports in 2018, namely Honolulu International Airport, Lihue Airport, Kona International Airport, and Kahului Airport.

The report follows the engine failure incident on a Southwest flight that left one passenger dead on April 17.

“It remains a somber time for the Southwest Family following the Flight 1380 accident, and our thoughts and prayers continue to be with the Riordan family, and all of our Customers on the flight,” said Gary C. Kelly, chairman of the board.
