Southwest Airlines Reaches Accord with Mechanics
Southwest Airlines said Wednesday it had reached an agreement in principle with the union representing the airline’s mechanics.
Over 2,400 mechanics and employees in related workgroups are represented by the Aircraft Mechanics Fraternal Association, which requested mediation in 2015.
“I am pleased that we have reached an Agreement in Principle after these extended negotiations with the support and assistance of the National Mediation Board,” said Russell McCrady, the airline’s vice president of labor relations.
The five-year agreement includes updates to work rules, higher pay, improved benefits, and a ratification bonus.
The contract will be sent to employees for a ratification vote, although the date for the vote has not yet been set.
