Power Outage in Amsterdam Sparks Major Flight Delays at Schiphol
Passengers at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol faced long delays after a power outage hit parts of Amsterdam early Sunday. The outage impacted the airport’s computer systems and prompted Dutch authorities to briefly shut roads and rail links to the airport.
Power has since been restored but the effects of the power outage continue to affect airport operations.
“The rest of the day, we are dealing with the aftermath of the power outage. Out of precaution, some flights are cancelled,” the airport said in a statement on its website. “Other flights may be delayed. For the time being, everything is focused on getting as many travelers as possible on their place of destination.”
Tennet, the Dutch power grid company, said it is looking into the cause of the outage.
