Hilton announced enhancements to its Hilton Honors app that will allow guests to use their smartphones as a remote for lighting, temperature, and television at some hotels.

The additional functionality is part of Hilton’s Connected Room strategy.

Guests will also have complimentary access to premium television content including Showtime programming during their stay.

“The availability of in-app controls is the next step in allowing guests to manage all aspects of their stay from the palm of their hands,” said Jon Witter, the hotelier’s chief customer officer.

Hilton said it is rolling out Connected Room technology across multiple Hilton brands and properties and that several thousand rooms will be equipped with the technology by the end of the year.
