IMG_9776 (1)United Airlines announced plans to replace its quarterly performance bonus program for employees with a lottery-based program.

The move, announced in an internal memo that was provided to Frequent Business Traveler, would replace the current performance bonuses that go to all eligible employees with quarterly prizes that include cash, cars, vacation packages, and one grand prize of $100,000. Under the old program, bonuses were as much as $300 per employee per quarter.

“We took a step back and decided to replace the quarterly operational bonus and perfect attendance programs with an exciting new rewards program called ‘core4 Score Rewards,’” said Scott Kirby, the airline’s president, said in the memo.

Several employees at the airline, who were not authorized to speak on the record, expressed concern over the new program and told Frequent Business Traveler that many of their colleagues were “shocked and disappointed” by the change.
