United Airlines Reports ‘Record Breaking’ January
United Airlines announced operational results for January 2018, calling it a “record breaking” month.
Traffic for the Chicago-based airline during the month of January was 16.3 billion RPMs, or revenue passenger miles, an increase of 1.8% from 16.04 billion RPMs in January 2017. The carrier’s total capacity for the month was up 5.1% as well, to 20.62 billion ASMs, or available seat miles, from 19.97 billion ASMs in the same period in 2017.
Meanwhile, United’s consolidated load factor fell by 1.2 percentage points to 79.2%. The airline said that it experienced the fewest cancellations in a month in its history this January while setting a new record for on-time arrivals.
United reported a 3.8% rise in domestic traffic on a 5.8% increase in capacity while there was a 0.6% drop in international traffic on a 0.5% increase in international capacity.
