Los Angeles is one of several cities where the new service will be available.

Ride-hailing service Uber announced Express Pool, a lower cost option than its budget Pool service.

Prices will be as much as 30% lower than Uber Pool, according to the company, and the service will be available initially in Denver, Los Angeles, Miami, Philadelphia, and Washington D.C. although the company will be adding additional cities shortly.

Instead of merely picking up riders along the way, as with Uber Pool, passengers using Express Pool need to walk to a designated pick-up spot within a few blocks of their current location in order to be picked up. Uber then calculates the route to be more direct than with Uber Pool and other passengers may be picked up along the way.

The company said that passengers are then dropped off at a spot “a short distance” from their final destination.
