Budget flights operated by Norwegian have dramatically increased passenger volume.

The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey announced plans to rename Stewart International Airport in New York’s Orange County and voted to approve a major expansion project for the airport.

While the new name was not yet formally announced, it is said to be New York International at Stewart Field.

Meanwhile, a $30 million expansion project was given the green light so that the airport can better accommodate international travelers. Norwegian Air began operating budget-priced flights to Europe from Stewart last June and this has resulted in a significant increase in passenger volume since then.

The addition to the terminal is slated to start construction in 2019 and be completed in 2020.
