The Queen Kapiolani Hotel in Waikiki announced details of its $35 million renovation project with plans to complete the work this summer. The hotel is located on Kapiolani Park, land close to Diamond Head that was previously reserved for the royal family.

The project included an 8,000-square-foot (743-square-meter) lanai with views of Diamond Head and the beach that will have a new restaurant called Deck, as well as a new bar and lounge and a pool.

“We are thrilled to restore the Queen Kapiolani Hotel to its former glory,” said Jeff Perkins, the hotel’s general manager.

All guest rooms were completely refurbished with elegant new furniture custom built for the hotel with a design inspired by the building’s mid-century style façade. The rooms will adopt a color palette based on the blues and beiges of the nearby ocean and beach. Each room has a private lanai.

Queen Kapiolani was one of Hawaii’s last and most beloved monarchs and established the Kapiolani Maternity Home among other accomplishments, which today is the Kapiolani Medical Center. The hotel opened in the 1960s and has 315 guest rooms.
