DSC_0505Allegiant Air announced the opening of a new aircraft base in Indianapolis on Wednesday.

The base, the airline’s 13th, will employ 80 people and be home to two Airbus aircraft. A third airplane will be added later this year.

The airline first announced plans for the base in August 2017.

The new base “does mean more routes,” said Hilarie Gray, the airline’s director of operations, at the time.

Allegiant said it plans to add additional routes from Indianapolis, including non-stops to Charleston, South Carolina, and Sarasota, Florida.

The Las Vegas-based airline first began to offer flights from Indianapolis in 2015
