Air Canada announced it would introduce new Economy Basic fares on some of its domestic routes.

The airline promised that Economy Basic fares would cost less than other fares.

“Our new Economy Basic is a restricted fare that lets you enjoy the comfort and amenities of our Economy Class cabin at our lowest price,” the airline said in a statement.

The Economy Basic fare does include complimentary carry-on baggage, in-flight entertainment via an 8.9” touchscreen, and power sockets for laptop or other electronic device, but it is not refundable after 24 hours and cannot be otherwise cancelled or changed.

Members of Air Canada’s Altitude frequent-flyer program will not earn miles or elite qualifying miles when traveling on the Economy Basic fare nor will they be eligible for eUpgrades.

At launch, the new fare class is available on select routes and flights within Canada.
