Air Canada and Air China announced on Tuesday an expansion of their partnership.

The move coincides with the 2018 Canada-China Year of Tourism and covers codeshares and lounge agreements between the two Star Alliance carriers.

With the codeshare expansion, Air China will place its code on Air Canada’s new daily Montreal-Shanghai flight, as well as on Air Canada’s flights from Vancouver to Victoria, Kelowna, Saskatoon, and Regina.

To celebrate the expanded partnership, which is slated to go into effect on April 1, 2018, the two airlines are planning a frequent-flyer program promotion that will give members of their airlines’ respective frequent-flyer programs as much as a 30% bonus on all flights between Canada and China operated by the two carriers between April 1, 2018 and June 15, 2018.

In addition, Air Canada will place its code on Air China flights between Beijing and Zhengzhou, Xiamen, Shenzhen, and Nanjing as well as Air China’s flight between Montreal and Havana, Cuba.

The expanded partnership also means that Star Gold customers and all Air China first- and business-class customers will have access to Air Canada’s International Maple Leaf Lounges in Montreal and Vancouver, while eligible elite and business-class Air Canada customers will continue to enjoy access to Air China’s lounges in multiple airports in China including Beijing and Shanghai.
