American Airlines to Offer Same Day Flight Change and Standby Via Smartphone App

American Airlines announced the release of version 5.4 of its smartphone app, adding several new features including the ability to make a same-day flight change via the app.

The app supports the feature for passengers traveling by themselves who have elite status with the airline, are flying in first class, or are traveling on a Y fare. The feature is accessible by tapping the desired trip and accessing the travel tools menu.

The airline also updated the user interface in this release for check-in functionality for international flights.

In July, the Fort Worth-based airline added a new set of features to the app called Customer Baggage Notification. The new functionality notifies passengers shortly after landing via the app, text or e-mail message, of any irregular activity with their bags.
