Southwest Traffic, Load Factor Fall in September

DSC_0826Southwest Airlines announced operational results for September 2017. The carrier reported a decrease in its traffic, capacity, and load factor.

The airline’s total system traffic was 9.5 billion RPMs, or revenue passenger miles, a year-over-year decrease of 4.5% from 9.9 billion RPMs in September 2016.

The carrier reported a total system capacity of 11.6 billion ASMs, or available seat miles, down 1.6% from 11.8 billion the previous September.

Meanwhile, Southwest’s load factor for the month dropped to 81.7%, a 2.5 percentage point decrease from 84.2% in the same period in 2016.

In addition, Southwest forecast a drop of as much as 1% in RASM, or revenue per available seat mile, for the third quarter.
