JetBlue Reports Drop in Traffic, Capacity, and Load Factor for September
JetBlue Airways announced operational results for September 2017. The carrier said that its total traffic, capacity, and load factor were all down for the month.
The airline attributed the decline to major storms throughout the month.
The New York-based airline’s passenger traffic was 3.28 billion revenue passenger miles, or RPMs, a year-over-year decrease of 4.4% from 3.43 billion RPMs in the same period last year.
JetBlue’s capacity also fell 0.9% to 4.09 billion available seat miles, or ASMs, from 4.13 billion ASMs in September 2016.
Meanwhile, the airline’s passenger load factor for the month was 80.2% a 3 percentage point decrease from 83.2% last September.
“The third quarter presented unprecedented weather challenges for JetBlue, with two of the largest hurricanes in our history impacting our network,” said Robin Hayes, the airline’s president. “We remain committed to the rebuilding efforts, particularly in Puerto Rico.”
In addition, the airline said its Q3 revenue per available seat mile or RASM should increase approximately 0.9% year-over-year.
