Hurricane Maria Leaves Entire Island of Puerto Rico Without Electricity
The entire island of Puerto Rico is without electricity after Hurricane Maria made landfall on Wednesday near the city of Yabucoa.
The storm is moving steadily through the Caribbean, having already killed seven people on the island of Dominica after destroying much of the island including the prime minister’s residence.
San Juan’s Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport remains closed after shutting its doors Tuesday night.
Puerto Rico’s governor Ricardo Rosselló said that the storm is “the biggest and potentially most catastrophic hurricane to hit Puerto Rico in a century.”
The last time that Puerto Rico was hit by a Category 5 hurricane was in 1928.
