DSC_0370 (1)Marriott International said on Monday it plans to work with China’s Alibaba Group to market the chain’s hotels to Chinese travelers.

The Bethesda-based hotelier said that the joint venture with Alibaba will allow Chinese citizens who plan to travel abroad to book rooms at Marriott hotels via the Fliggy travel service platform owned by Alibaba.

The world’s largest hotel chain said it hopes to leverage Alibaba’s digital travel platform, its expertise in selling in the Chinese market, and its digital payment platform, Alipay, while at the same time driving membership to various Marriott guest loyalty programs.

“With the growing number of Chinese consumers exploring new destinations, this venture will introduce our hotels worldwide to this new and growing traveling class,” said Arne Sorenson, the hotelier’s CEO.
