Delta Reports Traffic and Capacity Increase for July

The Atlanta-based carrier’s total system traffic for the month was 21.73 billion revenue passenger miles, or RPMs, a year-over-year increase of 2.7% from 21.15 billion in July 2016.  Domestic traffic rose 4.8% to 13.02 billion RPMs from 12.43 billion last year, while international traffic decreased to 8.71 billion RPMs, a 0.2% drop from 8.73 billion RPMs the previous July.

Total system-wide capacity for the month rose to 24.65 billion available seat miles, or ASMs, from 24.28 billion ASMs, a 1.5% increase. The airline’s domestic capacity was 14.83 billion ASMs, a year-over-year increase of 3.3% from 13.35 billion in July 2016, while international capacity decreased by 1% year-over-year, down to 9.83 billion ASMs from 9.93 billion last year.

Load factor for the month was 88.1%, up one percentage point from 87.1% last July. Delta’s domestic load factor increased by 1.2 percentage points to 87.8% from 86.6%, while its international load factor increased by 0.7 percentage points to 88.6% from last year’s 87.9%.
