DSC00037 (1)Hawaiian Airlines announced plans for three new routes from the West Coast to Hawaii that will start early next year.

The airline will add service from Portland, Oregon to Maui; from Oakland, California to Kaua’i, and from Los Angeles to Kona. Oakland-Kaua’i is currently a seasonal route served by a wide-body aircraft. The airline plans to operate all three new routes with its new single-aisle Airbus A321neo aircraft.

While Hawaiian will launch A321neo service on an existing route, Oakland-Kahului, which connects the Bay Area with Maui, on January 8, it will inaugurate the Portland-Maui service on January 18. Service between Los Angeles and Kona will launch on March 11 with a wide-body aircraft that will continue until the A321neo is introduced on that route in the summer. Finally, Oakland-Kaua’i will resume on April 11 on the A321neo.

Hawaiian expects to take delivery of a total of 18 new A321neo aircraft between 2017 and 2020.

The airline’s A321neo aircraft will offer three cabins. The Premium Cabin is equipped with 16 leather recliners in a 2-2 configuration. The airline’s Extra Comfort premium economy lite cabin will have 45 premium economy seats, and coach will have 128 seats. All seats come with individual USB outlets and those seats in Premium and Extra Comfort cabins will also have AC outlets.

The cabins themselves are being designed using materials that the airline says will reflect “traditional island crafts.” This includes bark cloth, known as kappa, to fishing nets. The LED lighting will be designed to mirror Hawaii’s sunrises and sunsets.
