DSC_0125 (1)Delta Air lines announced that members of its SkyMiles frequent flyer program can now use their miles for upgrades on flights operated by its partner Virgin Atlantic Airways.

Members who have purchased an economy-class ticket can use their SkyMiles to upgrade to premium economy or Virgin Atlantic Upper Class. Those who have purchased premium economy tickets can upgrade to Upper Class.

The upgrades are available to those who have purchased economy tickets in Y, B, M, H, Q, or K class, and for passengers who purchased premium economy tickets in P, A, or G class.

Upgrades must be requested at least 24 hours prior to departure, and are based on availability.

Delta acquired a 49% stake in Virgin Atlantic in June 2013.  The two operate a fully-integrated joint venture covering flights between the United Kingdom and North America in which both airlines share the costs and revenue.
