DSC_0825A video showing a United Airlines employee pushing an elderly passenger to the ground became public after the passenger filed a $1 million lawsuit against the airline.

In the video, the United employee, Alejandro Anastasia, appears to push United passenger Ronald Tigner to the ground in front of a United Airlines customer service desk and another United employee.

The airline immediately issued a statement apologizing after the video surfaced, terming the employee’s behavior “completely unacceptable.” Anastasia is no longer with the company, the airline said.

“The actions shown here do not reflect our core values or our commitment to treat all of our customers with respect and dignity,” the airline said. “We are reviewing all circumstances surrounding this incident and reaching out to our customer through his attorney to profusely apologize for what occurred and to make this right.”

Although several United employees are seen in the video, none came to the aid of Mr. Tigner, who was lying motionless on the floor. Approximately one minute into the video, a passer-by, later identified as a nurse, stopped to render aid to the victim and asked that the airline call 911.

“This is just one of the most inhumane things I’ve ever seen in my life,” the victim’s attorney, William Hoke, told a local news reporter in an interview that was broadcast on Houston NBC affiliate KPRC.

The incident took place at George Bush Intercontinental Airport on July 21, 2015.
