Ride-hailing service Uber announced a new feature that makes it easier for users to request a ride for someone other than themselves.

Aimed at seniors who may not be as adept with technology or simply do not have access to a smartphone, the new functionality will automatically ask whether the ride is for a family member or friend when a user sets the pickup destination as somewhere other than their location at the time.

The user can then select a friend or family member from his address book and enter

When a driver has accepted the ride and is on the way, the selected passenger will receive a text message allowing them to view the driver’s route and contact the driver if need be. In addition, the driver will be able to contact the passenger directly.
